This Privacy Policy explains how NOLA Parades, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collect, use, and share information through the WWL Parade Tracker mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android (the “App”) and the website at nolaparades.com (the “Website”).
The short version: you don’t need an account to use the App, we don’t ask for your name, and we don’t sell your personal information. The App uses your location only to show where you are on the parade map and to get your local weather. Ads and app statistics are provided by Google.
Information the App collects
An anonymous app ID
When you open the App for the first time, it signs in anonymously through Google Firebase Authentication. This creates a random identifier for your copy of the App. It is not linked to your name, email address, or phone number. We use it to keep the App secure, to keep the parade data you see up to date, and to connect any feedback you send to the right device.
Your location
If you allow it, the App uses your device’s location to:
- show your position on the parade map, relative to the parades;
- get the current weather where you are. To do this, the App sends your coordinates to weather services (the U.S. National Weather Service and The Weather Company);
- let you share your spot. If you tap the share button, the App creates a text message with a link that contains your coordinates. You choose who receives it, and it is sent through your phone’s messaging app, not through us.
We do not store a history of your location on our servers. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings. The schedule and the map still work without it.
Favorites and notifications
Your favorite parades are saved on your device. When you add or remove a favorite, the App also records that a favorite was added or removed for that parade, with a timestamp, so we can show which parades are most popular. This count does not include your app ID or any other information about you.
If you allow notifications, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging gives your device a push token, and the App subscribes it to topics for the parades and alerts you choose (for example, “this krewe is lining up”). You can turn notifications off in the App’s settings or in your device settings.
Messages you send us
If you send feedback from inside the App, we receive your message, the name and email address you choose to include (both are optional), your device platform (iOS or Android), the date, and your anonymous app ID. We use this only to read and respond to your message and to improve the App.
Photos and calendar
If you choose to use your own photo as a background, the App asks for access to your photo library and saves the picture you pick on your device. Your photos are not uploaded to us. If the App offers to add a parade to your calendar and you accept, it asks for calendar access and only creates the event you picked.
Usage statistics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used, for example which screens are opened and which buttons are tapped. Google collects this information along with device details (such as model, operating system version, and language), an app instance identifier, and an approximate location based on your IP address. We look at this information in summary form to fix problems and decide what to improve.
Advertising
The App is free because it shows ads from sponsors and from Google AdMob. Google may collect your device’s advertising identifier, IP address, and information about the ads you see and tap, and may use it to show ads, measure them, and prevent fraud. On iPhone and iPad, your advertising identifier is only shared if you allow tracking. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings. To learn more, see how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Information the Website collects
If you fill out a form on the Website, such as the contact form or the driver sign-up form, we collect what you enter, for example your name, email address, phone number, and message. The form is emailed to us, and we use it only to respond to you. Our web host keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type, and the pages visited, to keep the Website secure and running. The Website does not show ads.

How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- with the service providers listed above, who process it for us to run the App and the Website;
- when required by law, such as to respond to a subpoena or court order, or when we believe it is needed to protect the safety of people at a parade or the security of the App;
- with a buyer or successor if our business is sold or merged, in which case this policy will continue to apply to the information.
The App is offered with WWL-TV. Some content, such as news stories, videos, and the forecast, opens on wwltv.com. Information collected there is covered by WWL’s privacy policy, not this one. The same is true for other websites and maps apps the App links to, and for the App Store and Google Play.
How long we keep information
We keep feedback and form messages for as long as we need them to respond and to improve the App, and generally no longer than two years. Favorite counts are kept as season statistics. Google keeps analytics and advertising data according to its own retention settings. Information stored on your device, such as your favorites and backgrounds, is deleted when you uninstall the App.
Your choices and rights
- Permissions: you can allow or turn off location, notifications, photos, and calendar access at any time in your device settings.
- Ads: on iPhone and iPad, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. On Android, go to Settings > Privacy > Ads (or Google > Ads).
- Access or deletion: you can ask us what information we have about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing krewe@nolaparades.com. Because the App doesn’t use accounts, please tell us the email address or the approximate date of any message you sent us so we can find it.
Depending on where you live, including California and other U.S. states, you may have additional rights under privacy laws, such as the right to know, correct, or delete your personal information and the right to opt out of targeted advertising. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. To make a request, email us at the address above.
Security
Information sent between the App, the Website, and our service providers is encrypted in transit, and access to our data is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Children
The App and Website are meant for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App or the law changes. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll give notice in the App or on the Website.
